Ahmedabad Airport Customs Seize Rs 29 Lakh Gold From Couple Arriving From Sharjah

Ahmedabad: Customs officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city intercepted a couple arriving from Sharjah and seized gold jewellery and other undeclared goods worth approximately Rs 32.37 lakh, officials said on Sunday.
According to Ahmedabad Customs, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted the two passengers based on intelligence developed through passenger profiling after they arrived in Ahmedabad from Sharjah.
During the examination, officials found that the woman was carrying gold jewellery concealed in her purse and on her body beneath her clothes. The seized jewellery included bracelets, a bangle, necklaces, chains, an anklet and earrings.
The gold weighed 70.18 grams of 999-purity (24-carat) gold and 149.25 grams of 750-purity (18-carat) gold, with a combined market value of around Rs 29 lakh, according to the department.
Officials also examined the male passenger’s baggage and found undeclared cosmetics, including face bleach cream and cold-relief oil, along with readymade garments, two laptops and a mobile phone. The items were valued at approximately Rs 3 lakh.
The gold and other goods were seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Investigators said the couple is from Kerala. DeshGujarat
