August 18, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department has sealed the canteen at St. Xavier’s School in Navrangpura after an inspection found allegedly unhygienic conditions on the premises.
The surprise inspection was conducted to check the quality, safety and cleanliness of food being served to students. Officials reportedly found poor hygiene conditions in the canteen and its kitchen area, prompting immediate action.
Following the inspection, the Food Department sealed the canteen on the spot for allegedly failing to maintain the required food safety and hygiene standards.
The action has raised concerns over food safety at school canteens, particularly those serving children. The AMC Food Department has indicated that similar inspections and action will continue at other schools and food establishments if violations affecting students’ health are found.
The civic body has reiterated that school canteens must maintain proper hygiene and comply with prescribed food safety standards. DeshGujarat
