Vadodara Ring Road: ₹483 Crore Phase 2 Approved, 17.56-Km Stretch to Get 4 Bridges, 3 Underpasses

Vadodara: The second phase of the proposed 75-metre ring road around Vadodara city has received in-principle approval, paving the way for construction of a 17.56-km stretch along with bridges, underpasses and other civil infrastructure. The second phase is estimated to cost around ₹483 crore and is expected to be completed within 18 months, with the target set for 2028.

Ring roads are considered important for improving connectivity between urban and rural areas and easing traffic movement around cities. The Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) had proposed 75-metre and 90-metre ring roads around the city as part of its development plans. The 75-metre ring road project, with a total proposed length of 66.95 km, was divided into four phases.

The first phase covered 27.58 km of roads in the eastern and western parts of the VUDA area at an estimated cost of ₹317 crore. Work on this phase is almost complete, with only roads passing through selected survey numbers in Sevasi yet to be opened.

The VUDA board recently approved the second phase of the project. The meeting was chaired by VUDA Chairman Arun Mahesh Babu.

Under the second phase, 11.76 km of road will be constructed between Vadodara-Ajwa Road and Vadodara-Halol Road, while another 5.80-km stretch will connect Ratanpur on Dabhoi Road with Trimandir on National Highway-48.

The proposed alignment will cover areas under various town planning (TP) schemes and pass through villages including Dhanyavi, Sundarpura, Varnama, Vora Gamdi, Amliyara, Kumetha, Mokarlipura and Alhadura.

The second phase will involve more than road construction. Civil infrastructure planned along the route includes a minor bridge over the Jambuva River, a minor bridge over the Narmada Canal, a railway overbridge and another road overbridge, along with three underpasses.

The proposal for the second phase was initially sent to the state government by the Road Board on November 29, 2025. Following a presentation before the Gujarat Urban Development Mission on February 5, 2026, in-principle approval for the project and its related expenditure was granted on February 18 under the Viksit Gujarat Fund.

A grant of ₹75 crore has been allocated for the project in the 2026-27 financial year.

With the approval now in place, VUDA will proceed with the tendering process, including the preparation of detailed plans and estimates and obtaining the required technical approvals. The second phase is expected to be completed within about one and a half years. DeshGujarat
