PM Modi to Inaugurate, Lay Foundation Stones for ₹30,766 Cr Railway Projects in Vadodara

Vadodara: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his home state of Gujarat on September 8, where he is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for railway projects worth a total of ₹30,766 crore at a programme in Vadodara.

The projects, being taken up by the Ministry of Railways, include new railway lines, doubling and gauge conversion works, as well as new sections of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). The initiatives are aimed at expanding rail capacity, easing congestion and improving passenger and freight movement across Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Among the major projects is the 259-km Vadodara-Ratlam third and fourth railway line, for which the foundation stone will be laid. Estimated at ₹8,885 crore, the project is expected to strengthen capacity on the existing route and facilitate smoother movement of passenger and freight trains.

Modi will also inaugurate the ₹334 crore Jobat-Tanda Road railway section, which is expected to improve rail connectivity in tribal and remote areas.

The foundation stone will also be laid for the Vishwamitri-Dabhoi railway line doubling project, estimated to cost ₹394 crore, and the ₹450 crore Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar gauge conversion project.

A significant portion of the programme will focus on the DFC. New sections covering New Sanand (North)-Makarpura, New Umargam-New Safale and New Safale-New JNPT will be dedicated to the nation. The DFC works, valued at ₹20,703 crore, are expected to strengthen freight connectivity between Gujarat’s industrial centres, ports and the wider North-South freight corridor.

A new Vadodara-Tanda Road train service will also be launched, while freight trains will be flagged off on the newly commissioned DFC section.

During his one-day Gujarat visit, Modi is also scheduled to inaugurate new National Highway bridges near Vadodara and address a public gathering at M.S. University’s Pavilion Ground. The event is expected to draw around 8,000–10,000 people.

Preparations for the visit include a city-wide cleanliness campaign, ‘Clean Up Vadodara’, being conducted from September 1 to 7. The Prime Minister’s programme is also planned to be broadcast live at multiple locations across Vadodara city and district.
