September 10, 2026
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has earmarked Rs 301 crore for preparations to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, including Rs 200 crore towards the host fee, the state Assembly was informed on Thursday.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who also oversees the Sports and Youth Services portfolio, shared the details in a written response during Question Hour on the second day of the Gujarat Assembly’s monsoon session. Congress MLA Amit Chavda had sought information on the government’s preparations and expenditure for the Games.
Sanghavi confirmed that Gujarat has secured the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and has signed the Host Collaboration Agreement (HCA) with the relevant authorities. The state has also paid the stipulated host fee under the agreement.
Rs 100 crore revenue allocation
According to the government’s response, Rs 100 crore has been allocated under the revenue head over the past year for organising the Games. An additional Rs 1 crore has been provided as a token provision under the capital head.
A further Rs 200 crore has been earmarked towards the host fee under the HCA, taking the total financial allocation for the Games to Rs 301 crore.
Dedicated organisation formed
As part of its preparations, the Gujarat government has created a dedicated entity named “Amdavad 2030 Commonwealth Games Organisation” under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.
The organisation was established through a government resolution issued on August 12, 2026, and has been tasked with planning and managing the Games.
Sanghavi said preparations have already begun for sporting events, venue management and other arrangements required for hosting the international multi-sport competition.
The state has also initiated consultations with Commonwealth Sport, the Indian Olympic Association and international sports federations as it works towards preparing the infrastructure and operational framework for the Games.
Ahmedabad at the centre of preparations
Gujarat is scheduled to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad expected to play a central role in the event.
The Rs 301-crore allocation, payment of the host fee and establishment of a dedicated organising body signal the beginning of the state’s formal preparations for what is expected to be one of the biggest international sporting events hosted by Gujarat.
