September 19, 2026
Surat: Indian Railways has approved the construction of a four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) in lieu of Level Crossing No. 53 at Km 62/2-4 on the Udhna–Ukai Songadh section of Western Railway, at a total cost of ₹133.2295 crore, on a cost-sharing basis with the State Government.
The ROB will be a four-lane structure, with the railway bridge portion comprising an Open Web Girder (OWG). The estimated cost of the railway bridge portion is ₹91.60 crore.
The crossing location has a 62% skew, which significantly increases the design and construction complexity of the project.
The viaduct portion will have a total length of 311.58 metres, with an estimated cost of ₹19.98 crore. The Railway Approach (RE) portion will be 524.32 metres long, with an estimated cost of ₹10.25 crore.
The total project cost of ₹133.2295 crore will be shared between Indian Railways and the State Government. The Railway’s share will be ₹66.6147 crore, while the State Government’s share will be ₹66.6148 crore.
The construction of the four-lane ROB is expected to facilitate smoother road traffic movement and reduce interference with railway operations. The grade-separated infrastructure will also support smoother train operations and improve safety and operational efficiency on the Udhna–Ukai Songadh section. DeshGujarat
