Dengue spike in Ahmedabad; Gota, Chandlodia report highest cases

Ahmedabad: With only a few spells of rain and the monsoon in retreat, dengue cases rose sharply in the city in September, with 640 infections reported between September 1 and 27, according to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) health department.

The 640 cases accounted for 51.1% of the 1,228 dengue cases recorded in the city between January 1 and September 27.

The prolonged lull in rainfall during the monsoon is believed to have created favourable conditions for mosquito breeding. The AMC has been conducting inspections and taking measures to identify and eliminate mosquito-breeding sites.

During September 1-27, the city also reported 103 cases of simple malaria, 27 cases of falciparum malaria and seven cases of chikungunya.

An AMC official said dengue cases were particularly high in Gota, Jagatpur, Chandkheda, Bodakdev and Thaltej, with cases also being reported from Vastral, Lambha and Nikol.
