Gujarat to Get Four New Medical Colleges

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has approved the establishment of four brownfield medical colleges in Kheda, Mahisagar, Botad and Gir Somnath districts by upgrading existing government hospitals under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The initiative aims to expand medical education and strengthen healthcare services in rural and remote areas.

Under the initiative, Shri Gayaprasad Jain Charitable Trust, Ahmedabad, will establish a medical college and hospital in Kheda district. Swaminarayan Vishwamangal Gurukul, Kalol, associated with Swaminarayan University, will develop the facility in Mahisagar district. Shri Chanakya Education and Charitable Trust, Veraval, will undertake the project in Gir Somnath district, while Delta Millennium Medicare Private Limited, Bhadiyad, Morbi, will develop the facility in Botad district.

Health Minister Praful Pansheriya said the initiative aims to improve access to modern medical treatment within the districts and increase the availability of specialist doctors in government hospitals. The new institutions are also expected to create more opportunities for medical education locally.

The selected organisations will be required to continue providing all existing free healthcare services at the respective hospitals. They must also provide completely free treatment, including post-delivery care, to pregnant women, as well as free treatment to children aged between 20 days and one year.

Additionally, each facility must operationalise a dialysis unit with at least 10 beds and provide immediate, free-of-cost treatment to trauma and accident patients, the minister said.

A Patient Welfare Committee (Rogi Kalyan Samiti) will also be constituted under the chairmanship of the concerned district collector to oversee the planning and management of patient-centric services.

The government expects the projects to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, improve access to specialised treatment and expand medical education capacity across the four districts. DeshGujarat
