Process of making panels for selecting candidates to begin next week: Gujarat Congress chief

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress President Bharatsinh Solanki while addressing a gathering of around 1500 ticket aspirants in Ahmedabad today said that the process of making panels of candidates for upcoming Gujarat assembly elections will kick start from the next week.
Solanki said, ‘we are going to start the process of making panels of candidates for 182 assembly seats from the next month. District Congress President, District Panchayat President, Member of Parliament, AICC delegates, MLAs, office bearers, observers, Panchayat committee chairman, Taluka Congress Committee President, Taluka Panchayat President will meet party workers from two to three seats daily over tea. The list will be prepared through this process and forwarded to state Congress election committee.
Solanki said, “only 182 ticket seekers are going to get ticket. We have to think in a way that if we get the ticket fine, if someone else get it then superfine. If we contest the polls collectively, Congress is surely going to be elected to power. And if party is in power, everyone of you get some benefit.”
Solanki rejected the reports published in section of media that Rs 15 lakh sum is being collected by party for a ticket. He asked ticket aspirants that not a single Rupee is needed to be paid to get entry into panel.
Solanki said 15-15 members list per booth submitted by each of ticket aspirants will become party’s soldiers.
Solanki said he has full faith that not a single person present in this hall will be snatched away by BJP ahead of polls.
Solanki in his speech mentioned party’s promise that 20% reservation to economically backward class will be availed by party if elected to power, beyond present 49% reserved seats quota.Solanki’s this announcement was hailed by some of those in the hall with chanting of ‘Jay Sardar’.
Solanki said three major meetings need to be held in every assembly segments. Venues of such meeting, its arrangements, orators needed for such meetings need to be decided by ticket aspirants.
Solanki stressed for importance to women and youths. He requested party high-command Gurudas Kamat to see that each district should have at least one woman candidate.
Solanki asked party cadres to send locally important issues to district level unit of party so that state manifesto committee can go through all such issues and include important issues in state manifesto.
