Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Assembly today passed Year 2018 Gujarat Private University(Amendment) Act to make a way for setting up Gokul Global University in North Gujarat.
Moving the bill, education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said the Gokul Foundation college campus was inaugurated in July 2011 in presence of Congress leader Ahmed Patel and then union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. The Gujarat government took decision to grant university status to Gokul campus as all needed requirements were found to be met.
Chudasama said Gokul will be the third private university in North Gujarat after Ganpat University at Kherva and Sakalchand University in Visnagar. He said Patan and Banaskantha districts had no university barring agriculture university.
Gokul University has 9 colleges that offer engineering degree, diploma, physiotherapy, law, science, commerce, nursing and architecture colleges. Proposed university has tied up with universities of UK and Canada.
Gokul Global University will offer newer courses such as school of design, school of management(startup courses), school of engineering with MBS, school of education, school of science, school of paramedical, school of mass media and communication, autonomous robotics, simulation, cloud, cyber security, artificial intelligence, incubation centre and innovation.

Rajput stayed away from contesting the assembly election last year.
