Moving mob of migrant laborers create ruckus at IIM cross roads; Police lob tear gas shells

Ahmedabad: A group of around 100 laborers today morning created ruckus at IIMA road – Andhajan Mandal cross roads with steel pipes and iron rods in their hands. Police had to lob teargas shells and use baton charge to control the violent moving mob. Police official said, the migrants had left their make shift colony and moving on road with bags. Police asked them to go back to their colony as registration process for their return to their native places was already on. They resisted with police in the meantime. One police vehicle suffered damage and at least one woman cop suffered injury in this clash. Police official Mr. Mal said rioters are to be booked for rioting offense. The migrant laborers involved in rioting were living in makeshift tin-shades at nearby GMDC ground. They work on the construction project of leading construction company PSP. The migrants according to Mal are from Jharkhand and Mizoram. They were demanding immediate travel facilitation to their native states. They had fear that their company would not allow them to go back to native places. Mal said half of laborers in this colony have been sent to native states while other half, roughly around 550 are now desperate to move back to their natives.
