Ms. Maria, was on a business trip to Morbi, where she was admitted to a local hospital in the tile manufacturing hub in late April, due to high fever and cough for 4-5 days.

“She was hospitalized after her oxygen saturation level started falling. Even though her Covid test was negative, the CT Thorax scan suggested she was Covid positive. The doctors gave her Remdesivir and steroids in Morbi, but her condition deteriorated, and she was in a cytokine storm. She was brought to CIMS hospital in this condition on April 29,” said Dr. Amit Patel, pulmonologist, who led the team of doctors that treated Ms. Maria.

The team also comprised Critical Care Intensivists, Dr. Bhagyesh Shah and Dr. Minesh Patel and Rheumatologist Dr Bhowmik Meghnathi.

Dr. Patel says Ms. Maria was in a critical condition, with her oxygen level dipping to 85%, and requiring 100% BIPAP support. She was also required to be given injections to control the cytokine storm. She required high flow machine with 90% oxygen requirement to maintain expandable range of spo2 to keep her vital organs functioning. She cooperated well for prone positioning with the high flow nasal cannula. Her CT Scan of thorax showed 80-85% of lung involvement.

“The patient gradually improved, and as she recovered, her requirement for oxygen support fell. She was discharged from the hospital yesterday. Her employer has informed us that she reached Spain last night in a chartered flight service,” said Dr. Patel further.
