September 22, 2021
Bhavnagar: Railway department has requested the forest department of Gujarat in a letter to repair and restore the wire-fence destroyed due to Cyclone Tauktae around the railway-track in Pipavav, Rajula and Savarkundla in Amreli to prevent the deaths of lions on the railway track.
The State government had installed the wire-fence to prevent the deaths of lions by coming under moving trains on the railway track which was destroyed by Cyclone Tauktae.
Assistant Commercial Manager of Bhavnagar division of railway department Niladevi Zala informed that lions often sit on the railway tracks in Amreli district, especially on the tracks between Pipavav and Rajula; and Savarkundla and Liliya.
The regulations on the speed of the trains in this area are implemented by the railway department but the deaths of the lions by coming under the moving trains occur due to delay in applying breaks in the dark, she added.
The incidents of stopping the train to save the lions by pilots of trains have occurred 75 times within a year, as per the record of railway department. DeshGujarat
