Top Gujarati litterateurs meet minister demanding law for compulsory Gujarati subject in schools

Gandhinagar: A group of top Gujarati litterateurs on Tuesday called on the Education minister Rushikesh Patel and demanded a law with a provision of penalty for the schools that don’t teach the Gujarati language.

Senior literateurs Raghuvir Chaudhary, Ratilal Borisagar, Mansukh Salla, Rajendra Patel, and Amar Bhatt called on the minister to demand a law to penalize the schools that don’t teach Gujarati.

Chaudhary said the State government had issued a circular regarding the same but as it is just a circular it fails to mandate things. Chaudhary said there should be a law and not just a circular regarding this and the schools that don’t teach Gujarati should be penalized under such a law.

Chaudhary said, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and other States are fully aware of their culture and language and they have implemented strict provisions for the same, but in Gujarat, the government has so far released only a circular which is not enough. DeshGujarat
