Gujarat govt – GVK sign agreement for six lane Bagodara-Vasad-Tarapur highway

The Gujarat State Road Development Corporation, under the Roads & Buildings Depatment, has signed a concession agreement with GVK Development Project Ltd to convert the 101.9-km long three-lane Bagodara-Vasad-Tarapur into a six-lane road with the latest infrastructure facilities on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis as a Public-Private Participation (PPP).

The project connecting south Gujarat with Saurashtra region for traffic to ports In the Saurashtra-Kutch.

About 30-km of the road falls in Ahmedabad district and the remaining 71.9-km in Anand district.

The investors will invest Rs.1,145.45-cr in the project.

It will not cost the Gujarat Government anything and is estimated to fetch the government Rs.4,968-cr premium in the coming 27 years.

As per the agreement, work will begin on the project in October 2011 and complete in 30 months by April 2014. The project includes widening 130 culverts and three major bridges.

Two bypasses will be built skirting internal traffic of Borsad and Vasad towns.

Four railway bridges, 17 underpasses, retro-reflective sign boards, thermoplastic road markings will be provided to ensure highest road traffic safety.

Recharging wells ad other water conservation projects will be undertaken along either sides of the road project.

Two toll plazas, equipped with ambulance, crane, medical aid, vehicular aid posts, telephones at regular intervals and traffic condition display boards will be erected as part of modern highway transport management system.
