IAS officer raises alarm over poor education in Chhota Udepur schools

Chhota Udepur: Following a recent visit to Chhota Udepur district for the Shala Praveshotsav, Dhaval Patel, an IAS officer from the 2008 batch, expressed his concern over the low standard of education observed during his inspection of schools in the district. In a letter addressed to Education Secretary Vinod Rao, Patel said that providing such inadequate education to underprivileged tribal children amounts to injustice.

In the letter, Patel further said that we are ensuring that tribal children continue to toil and struggle from one generation to another, without making any progress. He expressed his disappointment at this situation, highlighting the fact that these children and their parents have placed their complete trust in the authorities. Manipulating this trust in such a manner is deemed a grave ethical lapse and reflective of moral decadence, the letter added.

Patel expressed his puzzlement regarding the lack of improvement in the standard of education, despite the presence of sufficient infrastructure and qualified teachers. During his inspection, he assessed the educational level in schools under his jurisdiction, finding a significantly low standard in five out of the six schools he visited.

Notably, despite the government’s decision to discontinue Gunotsavam, an educational assessment program, due to the state’s poor education level, Patel celebrated Gunotsav during the entrance festival itself. DeshGujarat
