Ahmedabad Crime Branch nabs three in GRE Exam Scam

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Crime Branch nabbed three individuals involved in a scam of passing the GRE exam in exchange for Rs 70,000 at Hotel Balwas in Surat.

The accused, identified as Maheshwara Bala Nagendra Cherla Reddy (mainly from Andhra Pradesh), Sagar Hirani (residing in Mota Varachha, Surat), and Chandrashekhar alias Rahul Hanumantrav Karalpudi (residing in Vadodara, mainly from Andhra Pradesh), were nabbed by the crime branch. The crime branch seized items worth Rs 95,000, including 5 laptops, 3 CPUs, and 7 mobile phones from their possession.

The accused allegedly facilitated the passing of the GRE exam for candidates in exchange for Rs 70,000. They accepted an advance payment of Rs 19,000 and issued an appointment letter, specifying the date and time for the exam. Despite GRE exams typically being conducted ‘At Home’, they designated Hotel Balwas in Surat as the exam location.

The accused members would send photos of the GRE exam questions to Rahul via WhatsApp. Once they received the answers from Rahul, they would type them using a Bluetooth-connected keyboard, while the candidate pretended to type on the laptop. For each successful exam passage, they received a commission of Rs 4,000. DeshGujarat
