Gujarat CM makes changes to Road & Building dept

Gandhinagar: The Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, has made a series of decisions to bring about changes in the work of the high-level officials of the Road and Building Department of the State Government. These decisions take into account the need for a more appropriate distribution of the officials’ work area, specifically the rationalisation of regions, with the aim of making their work more effective, timely, and qualitative.

To ensure more effective monitoring and supervision of roads in the state, the posts of Chief Engineer North Gujarat, Chief Engineer South Gujarat, and Chief Engineer Saurashtra have been reorganised and restructured, replacing the existing two posts of Chief Engineer State and Chief Engineer Panchayat.

These Chief Engineers will handle the work of both State and Panchayat roads in their respective areas and will be responsible for the quality of work in their region. Furthermore, the Chief Engineers will inspect the ongoing projects for at least two days per week in order to prioritise quality.

The work of the National Highway is also divided into two sections, namely the North and South regions, due to the continuous increase in the workload of the National Highway.

To strengthen the quality control system of the Chief Engineer and improve the quality of road works, the technical audit and verification of the quality of South Gujarat have been assigned to another chief engineer.

The Chief Minister has also instructed the administrative wing to submit a report examining how experts from state engineering colleges can be included in the technical audit in the next few days.

Directions to maintain continuous records regarding the performance of the contractors and project management consultants were also given. If the performance of the contractor is not satisfactory upon annual review, action will be taken promptly, effectively, and in accordance with the rules. DeshGujarat
