4-month-old Lion cub dies after coming under express train in Savarkundla

Amreli: In the third such incident in a period of 15 days, a four-month-old lion cub succumbed to death after coming under a moving train near Savarkundla here.
The incident occurred on Monday in the village of Khadkala in Saverkundla Taluka when the Mahuva-Surat Express was passing through the area. A lioness and her cub were in the vicinity, and while the train was passing, the lioness crossed the railway line, but the cub failed to do so and got caught under the train. It is learned that the Loco Pilot had applied the brakes, but unfortunately, it could not save the cub.
The Range Forest Officer told the media persons that after the movement of the lioness was seen on Sunday in this area, the forest department had informed the railways to advise the Loco Pilots to be extra vigilant. In the lion corridor, the speed limit is 40 kmph; however, according to the information, the train was running at a higher speed than the limit, he added.
Earlier on July 21, two lions got hit by a freight train in Uchhaiya village. One of them died on the spot, while another one succumbed to its injuries during the treatment. DeshGujarat
