SBWL delays mining waste removal plan near Jambughoda Sanctuary
August 25, 2023
Jambughoda: The State Board for Wildlife (SBWL) has decided to temporarily suspend the plan to remove aging mining waste from the eco-sensitive zone within the Jambughoda Sanctuary.
The decision was prompted by a matter of contention raised by SBWL member Rohit Vyas. Vyas emphasized that a two-member committee, established back in 2014, had initially recommended the removal of debris solely from a 64-hectare area within the total expanse of 211 hectares. Vyas pointedly highlighted that the location, now adorned with vegetation and housing wildlife, stands a mere 500 meters from the Jambughoda Sanctuary. This geographical proximity, according to him, establishes its integral status as part and parcel of the sanctuary itself.
