Muslims in Ahmedabad to hold Eid procession on Sept 29 due to Ganesh Visarjan on Sept 28
September 21, 2023
Ahmedabad: The festivals of Eid-e-Milad and Ganesh Visarjan are on the 28th of September this year. Ganesh Visarjan is a festival marking immersion of thousands of Ganesha murtis in water bodies after festive processions through streets.
Four representatives of Muslim community in the city met with the city police commissioner for seeking permission to hold an Eid procession on September 28 evening. However the Police Commissioner informed them that at various other places across India and elsewhere in Gujarat, Eid processions are going to take place on 29 September instead of 28th so that Ganesh Visarjan processions on same route can smoothly take place on September 28 and anti social elements don’t make it an opportunity to create tension between two communities.
The four members delegation of Muslims agreed to this suggestion made by police and decided that the Muslims will celebrate Eid on 28 September but hold Eid procession on 29 September post 3 pm. DeshGujarat
