U.S. Ambassador Garcetti in Ahmedabad to support Indian squad; Meets ’83 legends

Ahmedabad: Another example of the growing bilateral relationship between India and the USA was witnessed at the SVPI airport here before the match. Eric Garcetti, the USA’s ambassador to India, expressed confidence in India’s victory and praised it as the best team. Cheering for India, he exclaimed, ‘Go, India!’ Garcetti played cricket with India’s first World Cup-winning team, and a cake was also cut.

Recently, cricket has earned a place in the Olympics. As of now, Paris is hosting the Olympics in 2024, but cricket will be included as a sport in 2028. Speaking in this context, Garcetti mentioned that the USA would be the first to welcome the world champion India to the Olympics.

Eric Garcetti met members of the Indian first World Cup-winning team of 1983. He also gifted bats to the 1983 World Cup winners Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Roger Binny, Jimmy Amarnath, Kirti Azad, and Ravi Shastri. He further inspired India to lift the World Cup trophy once again.

Garcetti wrote on X, “Met the OGs of cricket – ’83 legends Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Roger Binny, Jimmy Amarnath, Kirti Azad, and Ravi Shastri! They bowled me over with their stories from India’s first cricket World Cup victory! Rooting for #TeamIndia in the World Cup final on Sunday. #MenInBlue, you’re on fire; let’s bring that trophy home once more!”
