December 16, 2023
Gandhinagar: The much anticipated GIFT City project is set for expansion, as the planned development extends to areas surrounding the existing GIFT City. The draft development plan for the GIFT City Area outlines a Rs 6,187 crore investment in infrastructure over the next 15 years.
The official overseeing the project stated, “We are embarking on planned development around GIFT City with this comprehensive plan. The majority of the extended area is expected to undergo development within the next 15 years. The initial phase, costing Rs 826 crore, is relatively lower due to the time required for land availability through the TP scheme mechanism. The total infrastructure implementation cost is approximately Rs 6,187 crore, contingent on market rates and potential variations in the future.”

During the first phase, all DP roads will be constructed over a five-year period, featuring two vehicular lanes on each side of the arterial streets. The plan proposes the installation of other necessary infrastructure in accordance with the development levels in respective areas, covering an estimated 25% of the overall infrastructure network. Incremental increases in the capacity of water and sewage treatment plants are planned over various phases. In the second phase, internal (TP) streets will be laid, along with water supply, sewerage, and electricity lines for the remaining areas. Approximately half of the gardens will be strategically developed next to fast-growing areas, and embankments on the lake and water channel are also included in the proposal.
Funding for the infrastructure is expected to come from the GIFT Urban Development Authority, central and state governments, and public-private partnerships. DeshGujarat
