University of San Diego to set up a campus in GIFT City; Online programs to begin from April

Gandhinagar: The University of San Diego from the United States is set to establish a campus at GIFT City, the state capital, according to Dr. Chell Roberts, Dean of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering at the University of San Diego. During his visit to the country for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, Dr. Roberts shared this information with the media.

The American university plans to sign an MOU with IIT Gandhinagar and other universities to set up the campus in GIFT City, Gandhinagar.

Dr. Chell Roberts mentioned, “We are signing agreements with the Ministry of Education and IIT Gandhinagar so we can partner with one of the quality universities here on some of our programs. We anticipate doing dual degrees with other universities, where some programs will be taught here, and students will have the option of studying half in the US and half here. We will also introduce online programs, which is new for India.”

“Through our online programs, we can have more students here in India, and through our hybrid programs, we can have more students in India at a lower cost. This provides access to a different group of students. If one opts for our fully on-ground options in the United States, it will be a great option with potential benefits, but it will probably be a smaller set of options. Our plan is to offer a wide range of education options of the highest quality to make a significant difference,” he added.

The University of San Diego aims to expand its presence in Gujarat will establish an office with an experience center. Dr. Roberts expressed confidence in the success of their endeavors and mentioned plans to explore more locations in Gujarat.

He also provided information about the upcoming programs in the curriculum, and said that starting in April, the university will offer online programs in artificial intelligence, data science, and cybersecurity. The reason for initially offering these programs online is that it takes less time to establish them, given their existing online infrastructure and local partnerships. The university intends to transition these programs into a hybrid format later in the year. DeshGujarat
