Gujarat Vidyapith makes constitutional revisions; Chancellor’s term capped to 5 yrs
January 24, 2024
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Vidyapith has made revisions to its constitution to limit the number of trustees and the tenure of the chancellor. Under the amendments coming into effect last month, the Gujarat Vidyapith Governing Council (Mandal) reduced the maximum number of members (trustees) on its board from 25 to 17 and extended their terms from three to five years. The amendments also limited the chancellor’s term, previously a lifetime position, to five years.
The current Chancellor of the university is Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat. Eight members, who were previously part of the trust, are employees of Vidhyapeeth. Now, only trustees will be in the governing council, and no employee will be part of it.
Moreover, the president of the Mandal, who was previously the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith, is now the Chancellor.
The stipulation that any changes to the constitution require the majority consent of two-thirds of the members has been retained. DeshGujarat
