Bharuch: A group of Muslims here today demanded the suspension of the Hindu lady principal of Ankleshwar-based Lions School for asking female students to leave Hijab-Nakab during the Gujarat Board class 10 exam on Wednesday.
An Urdu-speaking long-beard Muslim man told media persons that Muslim girls were asked to remove their Hijab before the start of the Mathematics exam on March 13 at Lions School by Gujarati school’s lady principal. He went on to say that he along with other Muslims have demanded the suspension of this principal.
The lady teacher told media persons that one girl had Mathematics equations written on her hand, after which a checking drive was launched. The girls at the point of entry were told to remove the Hijab-Nakab and they removed the same before entering the classroom. However, one girl skipped checking. She was told in the exam room to remove the Hijab and she removed it.
The lady teacher said that the exam rooms have CCTV cameras and as per the rule, 80 percent portion of the face should be visible while giving the exam. She said the girl in question was asked to remove Hijab and she obeyed it. The sequence hardly lasted for three or four seconds.
The District Education Officer meanwhile clarified that it was not Hijab, but Nakab on that female student’s face and it was necessary to be removed as the identity of the student can’t be confirmed if there’s Nakab on the face. The issue of dummy students appearing in exams is serious and therefore faces can’t be covered in a way that only eyes are visible.
The state board examination officials when asked, said that there are no rules about dressing in the Gujarat Board exams. DeshGujarat
