Certificate for Garba’s inscription in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List bestowed upon Gujarat

Gandhinagar: In a ceremony held in Paris, the dance form of Garba has been officially recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, following its inscription on the list in December last year. The certificate for this recognition was bestowed by the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, upon Gujarat in the presence of State Ministers Harsh Sanghavi and Praful Pansheriya.

The Gujarat Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, shared this information in a post, X, which stated, “A moment of joy and pride for entire India, including Gujarat. Gujarat’s pride and cultural heritage, Sama Garba, was awarded a certificate by UNESCO, declaring it an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’. The honor was announced for Garba on 6 December 2023 by UNESCO. On 22 March 2024, UNESCO Director-General Ms. Audrey Azoulay presented this certificate in Paris, and on behalf of Gujarat, State Ministers Harsh Sanghavi and Praful Pansheriya, accepted this award.”
