Forest dept captures Leopard near Somnath Temple

Gir Somnath: The Forest Department today captured a leopard that was sighted near Somnath Mandir in Prabhas Patan a few days ago.

A few days ago, some locals saw a leopard roaming in the parking area of Somnath temple. Concerned by this, the locals reported the matter to the forest department. Considering the security of locals and the large number of tourists, the forest department planted cages across the area. Today, the leopard was caught in one of the cages.

It is to be noted that the Forest Department has requested the Somnath Temple Trust to remove wild plants and grasses from the area so that the leopard problem can be permanently resolved.

K. D. Pampaniya, In-charge Range Forest Officer (RFO) Gir Somnath, said, “Earlier this morning, a leopard was caught and is being transferred to the Amrapur Animal Care Center. The area has bushes and wild plants, so I request the Somnath Temple Trust to clear the area of plants, which serve as habitats for leopards. As the land becomes clear, the possibility of leopards returning to this area will be greatly reduced.” DeshGujarat
