Central Gujarat MPs and MLAs give ultimatum to centre on Vadodara airport issue
Vadodara, 12 May, 2011

Central Gujarat’s member of parliaments have given ultimatum to central government on the issue of proposed new airport terminal at Harni in Vadodara. MPs and MLAs of central Gujarat today held a press meet and announced that they will start an agitation all across the central Gujarat area after 30th of this month if their demands related to Vadodara airport are not addressed.

Vadodara MP and state BJP general secretary Balkrishna Shukla threatened that an agitation would be conducted throughout central Gujarat if work on the airport did not take off soon and if it was not named after Maharaja Sayajirao III.

The foundation stone of the airport was laid on February 26, 2009, by the former Union civil aviation minister Praful Patel. The new airport terminal with international status was to come up at an estimated cost of Rs 130 crore and the work on the terminal was to get over in December 2010, but by that time work had not even begun. However, Shukla said not a single brick had been laid at the construction site so far.
