AMC to build Urban House for Rs 76 crore near Nagri Hospital

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) standing committee has approved the construction of a nine-storey Urban House near Law Garden in Navrangpura. The project, set on a 5,304 sq m plot, is estimated to cost Rs 76 crore. The new building will consolidate 21 different offices into one location in an effort to provide a single-window system for construction approvals, town planning maps, and other related services. Currently, applicants must visit various AMC offices in different areas to complete tasks like obtaining construction approvals.

The building’s primary responsibilities will include handling town planning scheme drafts and granting development permissions for new constructions. The committee has approved the design and estimated costs, and a tender is expected to be issued soon. Spanning 21,240 sq m, the building will include two basements, with Rs 52.15 crore allocated for construction and Rs 24 crore for interior work.

The Urban House will accommodate several 21 different offices, including the City Planning Department, Estate Department Central Office, TDO Central Office, and the offices of BPSP, the Housing Department, and the Town Planning Officer. It will also feature storage and record rooms, a training center, a server room, a cafeteria, and a terrace garden-canteen. Offices for high-ranking officials, including the commissioner, are also planned. Parking facilities will include 140 spaces for four-wheelers and 1,184 spaces for two-wheelers across two basements and the project will also have a 1,055 square meter green area.

At present, AMC pays Rs. 2.64 crore in rent for 21 offices. Each month, 2,800 plans are approved in the city. DeshGujarat
