Violence in J&K, North East, Naxal areas down by 70% in last 10 years: Amit Shah in Gujarat
November 19, 2024
Gandhinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is visiting his home state of Gujarat today, stated that the BJP-led Union government has reduced violence in Jammu and Kashmir, the North-East, and Naxal-affected areas by 70 percent over the last decade.
Shah made this statement during the opening session of the 50th All India Police Science Conference at the Rashtriya Raksha University. “We have laid a strong foundation with economic reforms such as GST, Ease of Doing Business, and Make in India; social reforms like raising the living standards of over 60 crore people and bringing 25 crore people out of poverty; for youth, we have worked on the new education policy, startup training, skill development, and R&D. Women ave been empowered with 33% reservation. For years, three regions—Kashmir, the North-East, and areas affected by Naxalism—were considered highly disturbed. However, we have made substantial progress in improving security in these areas. When comparing data from the past 10 years with earlier periods, we have succeeded in reducing violence by 70 percent,” Shah remarked.
Talking about the newly implemented criminal laws, Shah said, “With the implementation of three new criminal laws, justice will be delivered to people from the Supreme Court within three years from the time the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) in any police station in the country.”
Further, Shah stated that the Modi government is committed to ensuring that all prisoners who have served one-third of their sentence will receive justice before Constitution Day. He explained, “We have established about 60 provisions that bind the courts, prosecution, and police to complete their tasks within set timeframes. We have also instructed jails that if a trial is delayed beyond a certain period, except in cases involving serious crimes, the jail officer must initiate the bail process in court. Our goal is to ensure that before Constitution Day, there is not a single prisoner in the country who has served one-third of their sentence without receiving justice. Significant efforts have been made to hold the police accountable and to strengthen them.”
Constitution Day, celebrated annually on November 26, commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution, while reaffirming its principles and honoring the contributions of the Founding Fathers.
Shah further emphasized the importance of addressing global challenges such as cybercrime, border security, illegal drone usage, narcotics, and the abuse of the darknet. He stressed that India must stay ahead of lawbreakers in these areas. “We face challenges that are not only for India but for the entire world. India must lead the way in solving them. We must stay two steps ahead of lawbreakers in five critical areas: cybercrime, border security through technology, preventing and combating the illegal use of drones, narcotics, and using modern technology to investigate and combat the misuse of the darknet,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Shah inaugurated the Gandhinagar Philatelic Exhibition “Phila Vista 2024” and visited the Dandi Kutir Museum. DeshGujarat
