Ahmedabad: Several healthcare institutions in Ahmedabad are facing financial difficulties due to delayed payments from the Madhya Pradesh government under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), a newspaper report stated.

As per the newspaper, The Gujarat Cancer Research Institute (GCRI), which treats a large number of out-of-state patients, reports that 30-40% of its patients come from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. However, the institute still has Rs 25 crore in dues pending under the PMJAY scheme from Madhya Pradesh.

Similarly, the U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre has around Rs 20 crore in unpaid bills for treatments provided to Madhya Pradesh residents under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

It is learned that repeated follow-ups with the Madhya Pradesh government have resulted in sporadic payments, with only about Rs 90 lakh being released at a time. These delays are putting a strain on the finances of Gujarat’s hospitals, which treat many patients from out of state. DeshGujarat
