Construction of 6 museums, upgradation of 5 underway in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The construction of six new museums to showcase the historical heritage of the state is currently underway. The ‘Gujarat Vandana Museum,’ which will highlight Gujarat’s historical legacy as of December 31, 2024, is being developed at SOU-Ekta Nagar over a 12-acre area. An estimated ₹3.93 crore has been spent on the project over the past two years, Cultural Activities Minister Mulubhai Bera said while responding to a question in the State Assembly today.
Addressing a sub-question, the minister stated that the ‘Gujarat Vandana Museum’ will provide an overview of Gujarat’s establishment and its contribution to national development. The museum will feature eight technology-enabled galleries. Additionally, the six new museums under construction include the Museum of Native States in Kevadia, the Veer Bal Museum in Bhuj, the Krishnadevaraya Museum, and the Vadnagar Museum, among others. The 2025-26 state budget has allocated ₹39.94 crore for the renovation of existing museums.
Providing further details, the minister mentioned that upgradation work is in progress for five museums, including the Bardoli Museum, which is being renovated to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, along with the Durbar Hall, the Saputara-Dang Museum, and the Rajmata Museum in Patan. The Saputara-Dang Museum will undergo phased renovation at a total cost of ₹30 crore, with ₹26 crore allocated in 2025-26.
