Ahmedabad: With temperatures hovering between 40 to 43 degrees Celsius in the city, the Ahmedabad Traffic Police have implemented a significant measure to provide relief to motorists. Starting immediately, around 74 traffic signals in the city will be closed during the afternoon hours. Additionally, the operating hours of the remaining signals have been shortened.

The city has a total of 274 traffic signals, and of these, 74 will be shut down between 12 noon and 4 pm. Meanwhile, 200 signals will remain operational but with adjusted timings to reduce the exposure of motorists to the heat.

Traffic JCP N.N. Chaudhary emphasized that the decision to close certain signals was made when the temperature crossed 42 degrees. These closures will remain in effect throughout the afternoon as long as the heat continues. In a bid to further ease the discomfort, plans are also in place to install tents at operational signals in the coming days to offer shade and relief to drivers. DeshGujarat
