Western Railway plans access control system at 9 stations in Gujarat

Mumbai: Western Railway has prepared a plan to implement an access control system at 12 major stations, similar to metro stations, to prevent entry without a valid ticket. Considering the rising number of passengers, the project will include designated routes for ticket checks, security screenings, and controlled access to platforms.

The Western Railway Division has sent a list of 12 stations to the Railway Board, including three stations in Mumbai and nine stations in Gujarat, where these access control gates are planned. With this, entering railway stations without a ticket may soon become impossible.

“We have sent a list of 12 Western Railway stations to the Railway Board, including three stations in Mumbai. An important decision regarding the access control system will be taken soon,” said Vineet Abhishek, CPRO, Western Railway.

With the implementation of the system, crowding at stations is expected to reduce as ticket inspections and security checks become more stringent. Under the new system, passengers will be able to purchase tickets, undergo inspection, and access platforms from a single designated deck area. This streamlined process is expected to make travel more comfortable and organized, while also tightening control over ticketless passengers. — DeshGujarat
