SMC removes dangerous portions of dilapidated Swastik Apartment in Rander
June 20, 2025
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has carried out the demolition of hazardous structural portions of Swastik Apartment, located in Final T.P. Scheme No. 8 (Palanpore), Fa. Plot No. 9, within the West (Rander) Zone, following safety concerns heightened by recent monsoon winds.
Earlier, the West Zone had issued a notice to the building owners under Section 264 of the BPMC Act, 1949, asking them to repair the deteriorated structure and submit a structural stability certificate. As the owners failed to comply, a subsequent notice was issued under Section 268 to vacate the building, and the premises were sealed.
Amid strong monsoon winds, the building’s balconies and aluminum-framed windows had become dangerously unstable, posing a threat to passers-by. Acting on this, SMC began the removal of parapet walls, windows, and balconies on Thursday, continuing the work through today to eliminate the risks.
The operation was conducted smoothly under the supervision of the Additional City Engineer, with the involvement of an Assistant Engineer, Junior Engineer, Supervisor, Technical Assistants, and staff from the Anti-Encroachment Department of the City Development Department. DeshGujarat
