Surat: June this year turned out to be the wettest for Gujarat in a decade, with the state recording over 303 mm of rainfall so far, according to official data. This accounts for 34.36% of the state’s annual average rainfall.

The southwest monsoon reached Gujarat on June 16 and covered the entire state by June 18, surpassing the previous June rainfall record of 200.83 mm set in 2023.

Among regions, South Gujarat received the most rain at 552.93 mm, followed by East Central Gujarat with 291.89 mm and Saurashtra with 262.66 mm. Meanwhile, North Gujarat and Kutch have recorded 183.61 mm and 173.61 mm of rainfall, respectively.

As of this morning, only three districts — Banaskantha, Patan, and Mehsana — have recorded less than 25% of average rainfall so far, while Bhavnagar and Botad have already crossed the 50% mark.

The districts that witnessed the highest amount of rainfall are Valsad (852.17 mm), followed by Dangs (688.00 mm) and Navsari (601.83 mm).

In comparison, August 2024 was the wettest month last year with 442.23 mm of rain. Meanwhile, June 2016 was the driest, recording just 36.76 mm.

Furthermore, the India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday in parts of Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli, with continued showers expected in several districts over the next week. DeshGujarat
