Ahmedabad Boasts India’s 5th Largest Operational Metro Rail Network

Ahmedabad: The city has emerged as a major metro hub in the country, boasting the 5th largest operational metro rail network, covering 62.73 km. Leading the country is the national capital region, Delhi, with 353.2 km of operational metro lines, followed by Bengaluru (96.1 km), Hyderabad (69.2 km), and Mumbai (68.93 km).
Other notable cities with operational metro networks include Kolkata (60.28 km), Chennai (54.1 km), Nagpur, Pune (38.22 km), Noida-Greater Noida (32.97 km), Kochi (29.7 km), Lucknow (28.38 km), and Kanpur (22.87 km). Smaller networks operating in Gurgaon, Jaipur, Navi Mumbai, Indore, and Agra also collectively contribute to India’s total operational metro network of 978.65 km.
Notably, the total length of the metro rail network connecting Ahmedabad with the state capital Gandhinagar will be 68.28 km, and the project is divided into two phases.
Phase 1, now fully complete and operational, has two corridors: the North-South Corridor from APMC to Motera Stadium (21.16 km) and the East-West Corridor from Thaltej Gam to Vastral Gam (18.87 km).
Phase 2 is an extension of Phase 1, connecting the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The network comprises two corridors stretching 28.2 km with 22 stations. As of now, 22.7 km of the stretch is operational. DeshGujarat
