Traffic jam on NH-48; vehicles form 5 km-long queue on Bharuch–Surat lane
August 23, 2025
Ankleshwar: Heavy traffic congestion once again disrupted movement on National Highway-48 near Ankleshwar on Friday, with a jam stretching nearly five kilometres on the Bharuch–Surat lane. Locals said the problem has persisted for the past four days, causing major inconvenience to commuters.
The recurring snarls are attributed to the poor condition of the highway and the narrow Amalkhadi bridge. The situation is especially difficult for people travelling to and from the Ankleshwar–Dahej industrial belt. Motorists said jams are a frequent occurrence on this stretch, forcing them to waste valuable time. Local commuters and industrialists have demanded a permanent solution, including proper road repairs and widening of the Amalkhadi bridge.
Severe congestion is also reported on the Bharuch–Dahej road, where potholes and ongoing bridge work have slowed down traffic on both sides. The problem peaks during morning and evening rush hours, with office-goers and school students facing delays—especially those heading towards Shravan Chowkdi schools.
The situation is further worsened by a shortage of traffic police and reckless driving by motorists using the wrong side of the road. Residents have urged the authorities to deploy additional police personnel to manage traffic more effectively and ensure smoother movement. DeshGujarat
