Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress on Saturday accused the BJP of “vote theft” in the Choryasi assembly constituency, alleging that fake, duplicate, and suspicious voters played a role in the party’s election victory in the state.

Addressing the media, state Congress president Amit Chavda said, “During our scrutiny, several irregularities have been found in Gujarat’s voter list. In Choryasi constituency of Navsari Lok Sabha, there are a total of 6,09,592 voters. Out of the 40 percent, or 2.40 lakh voters checked, around 30,000 were found to be fake, false, or suspicious — which comes to about 12.3 percent.”

He further alleged, “In Gujarat, tampering with the voter list happens in five ways: 1) completely fake voters, 2) manipulation in spelling, 3) one person having three to four voter IDs, 4) changes in addresses, and 5) manipulation by altering the language in the list. In many places, fake, false, and suspicious voters exist in very large numbers. Is a voter in Gujarat casting their vote only once, or multiple times? If the Choryasi constituency’s pattern applies across the state, then Gujarat could have more than 62 lakh fake, false, or suspicious voters.”

The data used for scrutiny, Chavda added, was drawn from the Election Commission’s website. “If the data is wrong, it is the EC’s responsibility to correct it. The EC is an autonomous body and should remain neutral, but instead of acknowledging irregularities, it is demanding an affidavit from Rahul Gandhi under BJP pressure,” he claimed.
