Gandhinagar: With the widespread monsoon rains, Gujarat has recorded an average rainfall of 92.64% as of September 4, according to the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC). The highest rainfall has been in North Gujarat (96.94%), followed by South Gujarat (96.91%), East-Central (93.79%), Kutch (85.14%), and Saurashtra (84.74%).
Due to the widespread rainfall, out of the 206 dams in the state (excluding Sardar Sarovar), 113 have been placed on high alert. These include 82 dams filled to 100% capacity, 68 dams between 70-100%, 24 dams between 50-70%, and 17 dams between 25-50%. The Sardar Sarovar Dam, considered the lifeline of Gujarat, currently has over 89% of its total capacity filled.
As a result of good rainfall, farmers across Gujarat have carried out 96.29% of Kharif (monsoon) sowing as of September 1, 2025, according to the Agriculture Department. Among crops, groundnut tops the list with 22 lakh hectares, followed by cotton in 20 lakh hectares, and paddy (rice) in over 8 lakh hectares.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 158 talukas in 24 districts have received more than 12 mm of rainfall. The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea between September 4 and 7, 2025. DeshGujarat
