Mob Vandalises Police Station in Godhra; Dispersed Using Lathi Charge
September 20, 2025
Godhra: Tension erupted in parts of Godhra town on Friday when mobs reportedly hurled stones at police personnel. The incident occurred after police summoned a social media influencer to the station to caution him against posting controversial content. However, following misinformation claiming that he had been called regarding a religious post, a large crowd gathered at the station. Police used force to disperse the crowd and increased patrolling in response to the unrest.
Officials said the man was brought to the Godhra B Division station merely to advise him against posting content that could disturb law and order, especially with the Navratri festival approaching. However, after his arrival, videos emerged showing him claiming he had been beaten, with some captions accusing the police of misconduct.
Briefing the media about the incident, Panchmahal Superintendent of Police Haresh Dudhat said, “The man frequently made social media reels, and he was summoned only to caution him about content that might cause disturbances during Navratri. However, misinformation circulated that the police had beaten him because of a recent video involving a religious poster. Following this, a crowd gathered and created a ruckus. Police used lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
“The lathi charge was only to disperse the mob. Any minor injuries may have occurred due to people rushing and colliding, but no serious injuries were reported. The situation is now calm. We have engaged religious leaders to appeal for peace. Stones were thrown at a ‘Vajra’ police vehicle, and the force reached the scene and brought the situation under control,” he added. DeshGujarat
