Gandhinagar: In a strict action against ragging at Gandhinagar Medical College, seven third-year students have been suspended for two years, while other second-year students involved in the incident have been suspended for six months, Medical Education Minister Praful Panchsheria announced.

Acting on a complaint of ragging, an immediate investigation was conducted, including a review of CCTV footage, which confirmed that the seven third-year students and other second-year students had engaged in antisocial and immoral behavior towards first-year students. As a result, the seven third-year students have been suspended for two years, while the second-year students involved have been suspended for six months.

Speaking on the incident, Panchsheria urged students to respect their peers and uphold humanity, especially as they train to become future doctors. He emphasized that students should focus on fulfilling their parents’ dreams without harassing or harming anyone.

The Minister also warned that such incidents will not be tolerated in other colleges, and any complaints received by the state government will prompt immediate action, potentially affecting the careers of those involved. He highlighted the grave consequences of ragging, noting that harassment can sometimes lead to tragic outcomes, including suicide, and appealed to students to be cautious and responsible. DeshGujarat
