Ahmed Patel’s son Faisal proposes new ‘Congress AP’ party; sister Mumtaz distances herself

Bharuch: Faisal Patel, son of the late senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel, has sparked widespread political debate after seeking public opinion on social media about the possibility of launching a new political outfit.
Faisal is considering forming a new party, named the “Congress AP Party,” which would involve breaking away from the existing Congress organization. In a Facebook post, he wrote, “My sister might join me. I am thinking of splitting the congress party. I will call it Congress (AP). Thoughts everyone???”
The development is expected to trigger significant turbulence within Gujarat politics as well as the central leadership of the Congress Party, given that Faisal’s late father was a long-time advisor to former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and widely regarded as her trusted strategist.
Responding to the buzz around her brother’s post, Mumtaz Patel clarified that she has no intention of joining any new political party. “Just to clarify …I have no plans to join any new political party or be part of any new initiative. My brother’s views and decisions are entirely his own. Please do not link me to this. Thank you,” she said in a post on Twitter.
Notably, a few weeks ago, Mumtaz had sharply criticised the Congress after its heavy defeat in the Bihar Assembly polls. “No excuses, no blame game, no introspection, it’s time to look within and accept reality. Till when will countless loyal ground workers who have stayed with the party through thick and thin …wait to see success … instead it’s failure after failure due to power concentrated in the hands of few who are totally disconnected with ground reality and are responsible for the misery and rout of the grand old party time and again. And mark my words these same people will be rewarded again and again because they have made themselves indispensable with their control and power!!” she had stated.
Recently, Faisal Patel had also said that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra should step aside and make way for leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Shashi Tharoor, and others. In a TV interview, he revealed that he was considering leaving the party and claimed he had been in touch with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, as well as Jammu & Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
