Class One Officers of VMC go on Mass Casual Leave Protesting Harassment by Certain Individuals
December 06, 2025
Vadodara: Work at the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s main office in Khanderao Market came to a near standstill on Friday after a large number of officials proceeded on mass casual leave, alleging sustained mental harassment and disruption of official functioning by certain individuals.
According to VMC sources, Class-1 officers had submitted a written representation to the Municipal Commissioner on Thursday, stating that a specific group had been repeatedly interfering with departmental work. The officers alleged that details of ongoing projects were being deliberately distorted, false information was being circulated, and attempts were being made to halt work at project sites. They also claimed that unfair financial demands were being raised by the same individuals, causing fear and pressure among staff members.
The officers further levelled serious accusations against the corporation’s audit department, alleging that bills submitted by a particular department for routine program expenses were being intentionally delayed. They claimed that the audit department was selectively sharing bill-related details with complainants, leading to allegations of corruption and damaging the corporation’s image. The officers argued that if there were genuine concerns about the bills, the audit department should formally disclose them instead of allowing misinformation to spread.
Citing sustained mental torture, repeated interference in operations, and an inability to perform duties in such an environment, the officers sought approval for mass casual leave. As a result, when the office opened on Friday, large sections of the Khanderao Market headquarters wore a deserted look. Many rooms remained dark, paperwork lay scattered, and activity was minimal as officials stayed away.
The representation by the officers does not include the names of those allegedly responsible for disrupting the system, and no official comment has yet been issued by the VMC administration. However, employees insist that the corporation must initiate an investigation and take strict action against those causing harassment, warning that continued pressure will further paralyze ongoing development and socio-cultural projects in the city.
