Retired Chief Secretary appointed as Chairperson of GERC ; New members also inducted

Gandhinagar, December 10, 2025 — The Gujarat government has appointed retired IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer and former Chief Secretary of Gujarat, Pankaj Joshi as the new Chairperson of the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC). The Government has also appointed Jatin Natvarlal Thakkar and Navinchandra Shah as Members of the Gujarat
Electricity Regulatory Commission
The appointment follows the recommendations of a Selection Committee constituted earlier this year to shortlist suitable candidates for the post. The committee submitted a panel of two names to the State Government in accordance with Section 85(4) of the Electricity Act, 2003.
Exercising the powers under the Gujarat Electricity Industry (Reorganization and Regulation) Act, 2003, the state government announced that Joshi will assume charge from the date he takes office. Joshi will head the regulatory body responsible for overseeing electricity tariffs, ensuring fair practices in the power sector, and maintaining transparency in energy-related regulations across Gujarat.
