Western Railway to Open 24×7 Rail Coach Restaurant in Ahmedabad
December 22, 2025
Ahmedabad: Dining inside a stationary train coach without travelling will soon be possible in the city, as Western Railway is developing a rail coach restaurant at Ambli Road railway station. This will be the first such initiative in the Ahmedabad division, following similar facilities already operational at stations such as Bandra Terminus, Andheri, Borivali, Ratlam and Rajkot.
The restaurant will operate 24×7 and offer both indoor and outdoor seating, along with amenities such as parking, takeaway services and a children’s play area. Railway officials said the area is being landscaped and all safety norms are being followed.
Ajay Solanki, PRO of Western Railway’s Ahmedabad division, said the project aims to creatively reuse railway assets while improving passenger amenities. He said the Ambli Road rail coach restaurant is being developed with a modern design, attached kitchens and a multi-cuisine menu, offering a unique, safe and eco-friendly dining experience for both passengers and local residents. He added that the absence of restaurants in the nearby area made the project particularly beneficial for people living in the vicinity.
The facility will be operated by a private agency selected through a tender process. Western Railway is also planning similar rail coach restaurants at Mehsana, Sabarmati, Bhuj and Gandhidham stations. DeshGujarat
