Multiple rounds fired during clash between two groups in Dahod; 2 injured

Dahod: A violent clash erupted in the Kasba area of Dahod city on Thursday afternoon after an argument between two groups belonging to the same community escalated into firing in broad daylight, leaving two people injured, including a passerby.

According to police, the incident stemmed from an old rivalry. What began as a verbal altercation soon turned violent, with one group allegedly opening indiscriminate fire. Preliminary information suggests that around five rounds were fired, triggering panic in the busy market area as people ran for cover and shops downed their shutters.

In the firing, two persons sustained bullet injuries, one of them a passerby identified as Sakin Malek, who was shot in the leg. Both the injured were immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. Police teams have also been deployed at the hospital as a precautionary measure.

On receiving information about the incident, a large police contingent, including the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Local Crime Branch (LCB), Special Operations Group (SOG) and division police, rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Empty cartridges were recovered from the scene, and investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those involved with the help of CCTV footage and other evidence.

Confirming the incident, Dahod DySP Jagdish Bhandari said that the firing took place following a fight between two parties due to an old enmity. “In the preliminary investigation, two people have been found injured in the firing,” he said.

Police have tightened security in the Kasba area to prevent any further escalation and have intensified efforts to trace the accused. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing. DeshGujarat
