Ahmedabad Airport commissions new Rapid Exit Taxiways R3 and R5
January 23, 2026
Ahmedabad: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has commissioned two new rapid exit taxiways, Romeo 3 (R3) and Romeo 5 (R5), marking a significant enhancement of its airside infrastructure.
The new taxiways will enable aircraft to vacate the runway more efficiently, significantly reducing runway occupancy time. This infrastructure enhancement will support smoother aircraft movement, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to improved on-time performance, said airport authorities.
In November last year, the airport operator had also made operational a new parallel taxiway for Code C aircraft, a move aimed at streamlining airside operations and expanding flight-handling capabilities. The parallel taxiway allows aircraft to access the runway directly, minimising the need for extended taxiing through existing routes.
Aviation experts noted that the infrastructure improvement has helped reduce aircraft turnaround time, improve fuel efficiency, and optimise ground traffic flow, particularly during high-demand periods. DeshGujarat
