Delhi – Mumbai Expressway: Major Hurdle Cleared in Gujarat, Vadodara-Limkheda Stretch Almost Ready
March 24, 2026
Vadodara: Construction of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway in Gujarat has reached the final stage on the Vadodara–Limkheda stretch, with almost the entire corridor now ready for operations. The biggest hurdle in this section was the shifting of high-tension power transmission lines in the Vadodara–Godhra segment, which has now been completed. According to the latest ground updates shared by infrastructure observers, the opening of this stretch by mid-2026 now appears well within reach.
The Delhi–Mumbai Expressway project, with a total length of about 1,350 km, has been divided into 48 packages. Out of this, nearly 875 km has already been opened to traffic.
In Gujarat, Packages 26 to 31 connect the Gujarat–Madhya Pradesh border with Vadodara. This report focuses on Packages 27 to 31, which are nearly complete and cover the stretch from the Limkheda interchange in Dahod district to the NE-1 interchange in Vadodara.
Construction Progress: Vadodara–Limkheda (Packages 27–31)
A recent video update by the Infra Live YouTube channel highlights the progress between the Vadodara interchange (on the NE-1 Vadodara–Ahmedabad Expressway) and Limkheda.
Transmission line shifting (Package 31): The main delay in this section was caused by four major transmission lines. The shifting of all four lines has now been completed.
Roadwork status:
At locations where the transmission lines were earlier obstructing work, earthwork and bitumen laying are either complete or in the final stage.
At one of the sites, bitumen laying on one carriageway has been finished, while the other side is in the last stage of earthwork.
From these points up to Godhra, the road is reported to be almost fully complete.
Bridges and finishing work:
A previously pending bridge near the Godhra interchange has been completed. Minor repair work on a few portions of the road is also underway to make the entire stretch ready for traffic.
After Vadodara, Package 30 runs between Pratapnagar and the Kalol interchange, followed by Package 29 up to Godhra, Package 28 up to Sant Road, and Package 27 from Sant Road to Bhimpura village near the Limkheda interchange in Dahod district. All these packages have been structurally complete for the past few months.
Earlier, a landslide near Sant Road had blocked part of the highway, but the debris is now being cleared, making the Vadodara–Limkheda section almost ready for vehicle movement.
Opening Timeline
The Vadodara–Limkheda stretch is expected to become operational within the next one to two months. However, work is still pending in Package 26, which connects Limkheda to the Madhya Pradesh border.
It may be noted that Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had recently stated that the Delhi–Vadodara stretch of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway is likely to open by mid-2026. DeshGujarat
